Scott County Commissioners approved design contracts for critical infrastructure projects, at their meeting Monday, September 18. The focus was approval for multiple bridges and small structures. This ensures that the projects are “shelf-ready” for future funding opportunities like the Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG).
The estimated cost for small structure replacements is between $800,000 and $900,000, with an additional focus on resurfacing or chip seal 20 miles of roads. CCMG funds, along with local resources, are expected to cover these expenses, making this a cost-effective approach to addressing both road and bridge infrastructure needs.
The county is reorganizing road crews into two groups: one focusing on roads north of Highway 56 and another for the southern section, which has more mileage. A dedicated bridge crew will handle mowing and maintenance, with a goal of completing five mow backs per year to keep roadsides clear and safe.
The plan ensures the county's infrastructure is maintained and improved over the next five years, with larger projects, such as slab replacements scheduled for future consideration. By addressing smaller structures now and preparing for larger federal projects later, the county is positioned for sustained infrastructure improvements.
The motion to approve the design contracts was passed, allowing the county to move forward with these critical infrastructure projects and be prepared for future funding opportunities.
