A high-speed police pursuit ended in a violent crash late Monday night, sending multiple people to area hospitals after a four-car collision.
Just after 11 p.m on March 24, an Indiana State Police trooper attempted to pull over a blue 2010 Infiniti near 8th Street and Sharon Drive for speeding in downtown Jeffersonville. The driver, later identified as 18-year-old Franky Vasquez, refused to stop and fled at a high-speed, turning onto 10th Street.
As Vasquez continued to evade officers, he collided with two uninvolved vehicles at the intersection of 10th and Spring Streets. The impact forced one of the cars into a tow truck that was parked in the right-turn lane.
Vasquez continued driving recklessly, heading the wrong direction on the road before eventually stopping on the off-ramp to I-65.
The crash left several injured, including two adults and two juveniles who were inside one of the cars struck by Vasquez. The adults were transported to UofL Hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. The juveniles were taken to Norton Children's Hospital and are expected to survive.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the rash was the only occupant and also suffered severe, non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to UofL Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the two occupants of the tow truck were not injured in the crash.
Vasquez, who sustained serious but life-threatening injuries, was also taken to UofL Hospital for medical attention.
Following the crash, investigators discovered suspected drugs and a weapon at the scene. Indiana State Police have not yet announced what charges Vasquez may face.
The incident remains under investigation.
