At a recent SCSD2 board meeting, Superintendent Marc Slaton informed the board that a recent ADM count day on October 1 showed the enrollment figure for the district to be 2,461 students, marking a decrease of 97 students from October 2023's count of 2,553. This significant drop is the “largest the district has seen in the last 12 years,” said Slaton. The drop presents challenges for school funding, as each student brings approximately $7,3000 in basic tuition support.

While special education and honors diploma students contribute additional funding, the decline in enrollment will impact the district's education fund, which currently sits at around $20 million. The district is actively working to maintain and grow enrollment by promoting the successes within the school system and highlighting the positive educational opportunities available.

Efforts to market the district's achievements, such as improved test scores, will ramp up in the coming months as the district prepares for the next count in February.
