The Plan commission was again a popular topic at the Washington County Commissioner’s regular meeting April 1.

There was again a call from Commissioner Tony Cardwell to vacate all the seats but the one held by Andrew Davisson, due to the fact that those on the Plan Commission have not taken their oaths.

It was raised at the March meeting that when people are appointed to boards that have authority like the plan commission they are required to take an oath within 30 days. Davission is the only one who has that specific oath filed in the clerk’s office.

The topic was raised at the commissioner’s March meeting, but the group decided to table the matter with Cardwell opposing that motion.

The county attorneys did not have a chance to investigate the matter and it was decided to table it again.

“Naturally when we’re accused of doing something illegal it’s up to our attorneys, that’s why we pay them,” said Commissioner Todd Ewen. “We want to make sure if there is something in error, it is corrected.”

Aiden Minton, who serves as Washington County Democrat Party chairperson, said he would be willing to work with the plan commission to make sure that group met the requirement of having the correct mumber of representing political parties serving on that board.

Minton said he has given his contact information to the auditor.

Ewen asked if Minton could put together a list and get it to him of people who have experience with items that would help in relation to plan commission related business.

Minton said he would be glad to do that.

Lucy Brenton read something someone posted on social media media concerning options for the plan commission and suggested also that there are more than two parties, Democrat and Republican and said she is more than qualified to serve on the plan commission and said as a Libertarian would like to be considered, as well.

The commissioner’s next meeting will be April 15 on the third floor of the Washington County Courthouse.
