A group from Washington County and surrounding areas is raising awareness about the need for more people to learn American Sign Language (ASL), especially within faith communities. Statistics show that 98% of deaf individuals do not believe in God-not by choice, but because they lack access to interpreters in places of worship. The group, called Building Bridges, aims to change this by fostering connections between the deaf and hearing communities, and by providing opportunities for people to learn ASL.
Building Bridges is working to create communities where interpreters are available at events, helping to make faith accessible to everyone. Their mission includes supporting deaf leaders and educating others about ways to better serve the deaf community along with teaching interested ones ASL.
