A 23-year-old Louisville man is in custody following a dangerous police pursuit that ended with his arrest on multiple charges Monday night in Southern Indiana.

Tyion Owens of Louisville faces a series of charges, including resisting arrest, resisting law enforcement on foot, possession of a legend drug, possession of a controlled substance, trafficking with an inmate, reckless driving, operating without a license, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The incident began around 8:45pm on Monday, March 24, when an Indiana State Police trooper from the Sellersburg post observed a Nissan Altima driving unsafely near 10th Street and Sportsman Drive.

Owens, the driver, was reportedly changing lanes abruptly without signaling, prompting the trooper to initiate the stop. However, Ownes ignored the officer's attempt to pull him over, turning off 10th Street and continuing to drive erratically on side streets, running stop signs, and disregarding traffic laws. Police said he eventually returned to 10th Street, accelerating rapidly and fleeing the area.

The chase continued westbound on 10th Street, with Owens driving extremely high speeds. At one point, he disregarded a stoplight and briefly drove in the opposite lanes of traffic. Authorities deployed a stop stick at the intersection of 10th and Spring Streets, but Owens continued fleeing.

Owens made a turn onto U.S. 31, headed south, before making a U-turn at Stansifer Avenue and heading back toward the I-65 South on-ramp. At this point, police were able to maneuver into position and successfully end the pursuit.

Despite the stop, Owens attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by Jeffersonville Police officers.

During a search of the vehicle, authorities found a handgun, suspected drugs, and marijuana.

Owens was booked into the Clark County Jail, where he is currently being held on multiple charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are continuing to process the evidence collected from the scene.
