Scott County Assessor Diana Cozart is reminding business owners that deadlines for filing business tangible personal property returns are quickly approaching. Indiana operates under a self-assessment system for personal property, meaning taxpayers are responsible for reporting all tangible personal property used in their business, for income production, or held as an investment that qualifies for federal depreciation.

The assessment date for personal property is January 1 each year, with a filing deadline of May 15. Forms must be completed in full, signed, and dated before submission. However, taxpayers who previously claimed an exemption for property acquisitions under $80,000 and still qualify are not required to file a return this year.

Forms can be accessed online at IN.gov/DLGF or obtained from the County Assessor's Office. Electronic submissions can be made via Indiana's online portal at www.poppin.in.gov.

For furth assistance, taxpayers can contact the Scott County Assessor's Office at (812) 752-8436, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
