In a recent meeting, the Scott County Commissioners reviewed and approved a resolution to allocate $75,000 from the Restricted Opioid Fund for a new Pre-Trial Case Manager position, slated for the 2025 budget year. The resolution was introduced to provide funding for a role that will support individuals involved in the judicial system, focusing on pre-trial case management and rehabilitation efforts as part of ongoing opioid crisis response initiatives.
Details of how the position fits into the restricted defense portion of the Opioid Abatement Distribution program, was shared with the board. The Pre-Trial Case Manager will play a key role in expanding services for incarcerated individuals, aiding their transition to community-based supervision, and providing essential connections to treatment programs.
The $75,000 funding request is part of a larger initiative to address opioid-related issues in the county, aligning with priorities set by the Indiana Office of Attorney General. The goal is to enhance support services for those impacted by opioid addiction, particularly through the county's collaboration with the Scott County IRAC program, which provides treatment and support for individuals dealing with opioid dependency.
Although there was a minor correction to the resolution's line item, the board unanimously approved the motion with the caveat that the line item will be corrected to reflect that position. The funding for this position will be included in the 2025 budget, with the resolution underscoring the importance of expanding pre-trial services to better serve individuals affected by the opioid crisis.
The $75,000 approved funds will now go to the Scott County Council as they are in their budget sessions.
