Seeking Spring Sport Schedules
As winter sports is coming to an end, I am now currently trying to find Spring Sports Schedules. If you have a team schedule please send them to my email at aaronstainbrook.theherald@gmail.com please let me know the sport is and what school it is for. I can find Scottsburg and Silver Creek but am having a hard time finding the others. I can use maxpreps for some, but they do not always have the full schedule. Here is a list of spring sports:
Baseball
Softball
Boys Golf
Girls Tennis
Track
Boys Volleyball
Boys Golf
So, please send any schedules that you may have and if you would like to spotlight your senior, then please email me as well. (This is for all sports for this school year). Thank you, and God bless. - Aaron Stainbrook
Seeking 1,000 Career Point Recipients
If you had a child or grandchild reach that scored 1,000 career points this season for basketball, then I would love for you to send me a name and a picture so we can put it in the newspaper. Also, if you know someone going to play in college next year, we would love to recognize them in the newspaper. Please send information to aaronstainbrook.theherald@gmail.com thank you, and God bless. - Aaron Stainbrook.
Support Our Local Spring Sports
I want to encourage everyone to attend some local high school games this spring. Sadly, Spring Sports do not get the attendance like Fall and Winter does. Reseasrch was done in March of 2015 and it stated that even if a team is winning, the attendence is still less than 50 people at a baseball or softball game. From my expercience, teams that play in the spring are lucky if they even look up to see 40 people in the stands watching and that is just for baseball and softball. I know that golf has little to no one there and tennis is about 15-20 people. So, with that being said, lets make our attendence this season the biggest that it has ever been. Go support your local high school and cheer on your team. - Aaron Stainbrook

With An 11-14 Record
On Friday, March 7 the Austin Eagles played agasint the Rebels of Southwestern in the Semi-Final match up of Sectional 45. The Eagles would struggle in the game as they only managed to score 24 points which would be their lowest scoring game of the sesaon. On a good note, Senior Brooks Swank would score his 1,000 career point in the game. The Eagles ended the season 11-14 which is the most wins the team has had since the 2017-18 season.
Scottsburg

The Warriors would go on to lose the game 82-49. The Warriors would end their sesason with a 6-16 record.
Henryville
Hornets End Season
With An 6-17 Record
The Henryville Hornets Boys Basketball Team ended their season with a 6-17 record overall which is worst season for the team since the 2013-14 season. The Hornets started off the season 3-3, but would then go on a 13 game losing streak before winning their last three games of the regular season. Here were some key wins for the Hornets: The Hornets defeated Salem on December 7, the Hornets defeated West Washington on February 21, and the Hornets defeated Crothersville on February 22.
College
The NCAA Mens March Madness Tournament is just under a week away and if you are like me, you have been looking at every prediction of how the bracket might look. If you read last weeks column, then you read where I shared with you about filling out your bracket. So, in this story, I want to share with you my top ten Cinderella teams for the tournament this season (this is if these teams make the tournament.). A Cinderella team is usually a seven seed or seven seed or above who goes further than expected in the tournament. Every year there is at least one team who is considered a 'bracket buster”. First, we have to talk about the Yale Bulldogs. We all remember that Yale upset Auburn last year as a 13 seed and could possibly be a bracket buster team again this year. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 73rd in the NET and are projected to get a 12 seed in the tournament. The next team we need to keep our mind on is the Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana has had an interesting year as they started off the season as a top 15 team and are now out of the top 40. However, Indiana has been playing great basketball as of late and are projected to be an 11 seed in the tournament. Next, we have the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia has been a scrappy team in the SEC this year and was even ranked at one point. If the right team shows up, then they could be a threat. The Bulldogs are projected to be a 10 seed in the tournament. We can not talk about possible Cinderella teams and not mention the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas started the off the season ranked number one, but have not had a very good season. However, it looks like they will do just enough to earn a eight or nine seed in the tournament. The Gonzga Bulldogs is another team that could go far in the tournament and knows what it takes to win. They are projected to receive a nine seed in the tournament. McNeese State is a team that I would keep my eye on as well. They have been playing great basketball as of late, and have even received votes to be in the top 25. They are currently projected to be a 12 seed in the tournament. Now, lets get into something crazy. If there were to be a seed to lose who would it be? Well, obviously we do not know yet because we do not know who the one seeds will be. However, I am going to take a guess. As of now, your one seeds are most likely going to be Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Houston. Now, if we look at their tournament history, we know that Duke is the only team that has made it past the Sweet Sixteen in the past three seasons. Houston has not made it out of the second weekend, Auburn struggles in the first weekend and Florida struggles to even win a game in the tournament or to even make the tournament. So, with that being said, if a one seed would to lose to a sixteen seed, I would have to pick the Florida Gators being the team to lose. So, I hope you all have a fun time filling out your brackets and make sure you pick a few upsets.
Long Time Bellarmine

Over the weekend of March 7-9, Bellarmine mens basketball coach Scott Davenport announced his retirement. In 1986, Davenport became the head coach at Ballard High School before returning to Louisville as an assistant in 1996. Davenport would finally find his long time coaching job as he became the head coach at Bellarmine in 2005 and has been there ever since.
