At a recent meeting, the Scottsburg Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved a bid from Temple & Temple Excavating and Paving of Salem for a major sewer lining project. The project, valued at $998,202.77, aims to replace the aging clay and tile pipes in the city's sewer system and prevent surface water from entering the wastewater treatment plant, thereby increasing its capacity and efficiency.
City of Scottsburg Mayor Terry Amick highlighted the importance of keeping surface water out of the system and continue to work on the infrastructure.
Midwestern Engineer Inc. Project Engineer Scott Siple informed the board that two bids were received: one from Temple & Temple and another from Insituform Technologies LLC of Chesterfield, MO, for $1,168,551.74. Siple recommended the Temple & Temple bid, citing its lower cost and the company's existing relationship with the city.
The project will be partially funded by a state OCRA grant of $750,000, with the remaining balance to be covered by the city. The board's approval is contingent on the final approval by OCRA.
