At the Scott County School District 2 (SCSD2) board meeting, an announcement was made about a plan to reset employee health insurance premiums for 2025 to the 2023 rate, after a relatively favorable healthcare claims year in 2024. Superintendent Dr. Marc Slaton expressed appreciation for the board's increased contribution to employee premiums this year, which, combined with a low claims rate, helped lower costs for employees in 2024.
While this year's claims have remained manageable, district administrators recommend reverting to the 2023 premium rate to ensure sufficient funds for anticipated healthcare expenses in 2025. “We've been fortunate with lower-than-expected healthcare costs this year, but to maintain stability, resetting premiums is a practical approach,” Slaton explained.
The administration also worked closely with an insurance committee, which includes teacher representatives, to determine this recommendation. Employees will have the opportunity to explore options during the upcoming open enrollment period, which runs through December, allowing flexibility to adjust plans if desired.
The board agreed to place the topic on the agenda for the December meeting to ensure that employees can voice questions or concerns, reinforcing the district's commitment to transparency and collaborative decision-making. Slaton encouraged employees with questions about the changes to reach out to the administration for further guidance as the district aims to keep healthcare costs sustainable for both employees and the district.
