In a recent meeting of the redevelopment committee, the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations was discussed. Four stations had been purchased a year ago and since then stored. Two of them will be installed. One EV station will be located on the south side of the square and another behind City Hall.
The cost of the installation, including electrical and concrete work, installation of bollards, and setting up the EV charges, is $7,950. A motion was made, and approval was given for this location.
The second EV station installation is in the back lot of City Hall, near the orthodontist office. This installation requires more work, including underground utilities and other infrastructure needs, at a total cost of $9,220.
A discussion to coordinate the timing of the installation, ideally on a weekend to minimize disruption, and ensuring nearby businesses were informed. The installation of the second location was also approved.
Signage to let people know where the EV charging stations are located was discussed. There was mention of them being listed on GM's website, as they are GM chargers, and the possibility of working with the visitor's commission to advertise their locations. It was noted that GM chargers are universal and can charge a variety of electrical vehicles, not just GM.
